If it's an automatic, it came with either 2.73 or 3.23 gears. If it's a manual, it's 3.42. On the auto, the 3.23's are the "performance" axle. You can check your RPO codes. I believe the gear code is of the form GU# where the number is some single digit number. 2.73's are pretty rare for a V8 car, so I'd say it's 3.23 or 3.42 depending on trans.

GU2 = 2.73's
GU5 = 3.23's
GU6 = 3.42's
Look on the door jamb. There will be a white sticker with a bunch of codes like this these are all the options your car has.

But as others have said, look at your RPO codes on the door. M6 is always 3.42, and a quick way to check without looking at the RPO codes if it's an auto is to look at the driveshaft......steel=2.73 aluminum=3.23

I haven't looked at the production numbers, but I have seen hundreds of these cars and only 2 with 2.73's. So I was basing my assessment off of personal experience. :shrug: <-- don't know if we have that smiley
