Default ""Torque Capacity""..(lets get this straight!)

If a company TELLS you that a transmission is good up to 600RWHP/600lb. does that mean that since your Car (INCLUDING TORQUE CONVERTER,ST-3500) is only putting out """345Lbs.Torque""" that you are no where near the limit and have nothing to be afraid of?????????

If thats so, then what does it mean when one says "torque multipication"? <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0"> u see what im saying or am i just confusing everyone? Im thinkin that I make a lot more than 345lb. cuz i just killed, slaughtered, aniliated my clutch paks!!!

Thank you!!!!!

Exactly what went wrong with trans, what clutches? I had a 4600lbs Chevy 1/2 ton pickup that had a 4l60e trans with a 2600 stall lock up converter. The motor was a 406 smallblock, this trans held up to 1.84 60ft. times on slicks and ran 13.40's at 100mph. The math on these runs say 375hp and 450+ ft. lbs. To answer your question:
no the trans is rated at locked up converter torque input. No 4l60e is rated for 600 ft. lbs.
450 maybe.

SSboy, just read your second post , 2to3 clutches dont even see torque multiplication, so problem is more like a lubrication issue to those clutches maybe low pump pressure? By the way ive had great luck with JET transmissions in CALI.

A lot of folks blowing out their 2-3 clutches are runnning ported MAFs. These send a lower "calculated load" signal to your pcm which increases timing (a good thing), but lowers transmission line pressure (a very, very bad thing for the life of clutches). Are you running a ported MAF? If so, you may have found the culprit to your abbreviated trans life.

Patrick
I am NOT running anported maf. I suspect that my 2-3 clutch package is roasting up. The other day I WOT it @40mph and by the time the tach reached the 4800RPM mark, the trans was slipping. I think this means that the 2-3 clutch pack is wearing??

I also have E. Wright tuning on my car. Ed has insisted that he has had to increase line pressure a couple of times to prevent my car from banging the rev limiter and such for my car. He was also hinting that my tranny might be worn. For example when i first had the verter put in, it shifted the 2-3 perfect. One month later, it was banging the 2-3 shift all day long. I think that the trans (epecially the 2-3) was wearing.
