Default Front spring removal question

I bought a set of Eibach springs for my 4th gen. It doesn't look to difficult and with the right tools it can be done safely I believe. Anyone have any experience doing them? Good or Bad? Or should I just take it in to have done?

did you get my email?

if you have spring compressors and the strut nuts are not rusted it will be no biggie.. if they are then it is a pain. also make sure to have the nuts replaced if they are rusted.

Yeah gotta be careful about the nuts on top of the strut. Mine were rusted and werent coming off AT ALL. All the WD40 and penetrating spray we could put on em they would not come off. And this was using an inpact wrench. Had to bit the bulled and saw it off and buy two new struts <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> but really it's not that hard at all. Prolly around an hour a side if you dont have any problems. One tip is to make sure on the new springs to put the spring compressors wide on the spring so it can compress alot. I made the mistake of putting them towards the center of the spring and it didn't compress enough to get the top nut on so i had to do it all over again.

Yes I did it is very helpful. David did you rent those spring compressors or borrow them from someone? I figure if I have to rent them it may be easier to bring them to a place that has the correct tools. I know that Trak auto used to loan out tools but they recently have gone out of business.

Same thing happened to me when I put on my Hals. What a PIA. Besides that it was pretty easy though. The local "good" alignment shop quoted my $40 per side so I said screw that...

The spring compressors are cheap - $15-$20 for mine from the local auto parts place. The driver side nut was rusted when I did mine. Took an air chisel and about 45min to get it off. Fortunatly I was replaceing struts at the same time anyway. It's really a pretty simple operation.
