Default Poly Tranny mount question...

I installed a poly tranny mount in my car and I am having a terrible vibration all throughout the car. I had one on a 95 T/A, but it was no where near as bad as this. I remember reading about some people using a backing plate that came with their tranny mount.. My tranny mount did not come with one. Was it supposed to? The tranny mount I recieved looks identical to the one I had in my T/A. Are the tranny mounts the same? Please help, I am desperate to fix this problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

Your poly mount looked like the stock one?

Did the poly mount look like this?

You will notice some transfer of road noise and a little vibration from the driveline. It should not be excessive though. You will get used to the road noise and minor vibration.

As I understand it the poly mount is identical to the one you put in your '95, but '98 has a slightly higher trans or slightly lower body tunnel. If you lower the trans cross member with some fender washers between the body and the crossmember the noise will go away, but a slight additional vibration will remain. One washer at each of the 4 bolts.

I am having the same problem with my poly tranny mount! The whole center console shakes from 2200-3500 rpms then smoothes out. What thickness of washers do you recommend, Tom?

I have no noticeable added vibrations from my poly mount, i'll explain how I did it and hopefully this will help you guys.....

First off, do not use that damn pre-load plate. When I installed my mount the first time with that plate, it almost rattled my teeth out. Taking that off stopped about 90% of the vibes. I proceded to grind down the 2 "knubs" on the belly of the mount...basically making it a flat surface so it would sit flush on the car. I also did not use any washers. Everything works great, and I have no extra vibrations to speak of. Hope this helps....

WILWAXU- Yes it looked like that, but without the backing plate.
I may try to install fender washers between the cross member. Thanks guys.
