Default clearancing a 9" for ring gear

This is my first time setting up a 9" and I have a question. I'm installing a detroit locker with 4.11 gears and the ring gear is hitting the housing where the pilot bearing is on the end of the pinion. Is it common to have to grind for clearance here or am I doing something wrong??

I take it your using a stock case, then yes you must take a hand grinder and just take off enough to let the ring clear.

Yeah it's a stock housing. I think I can just grind off the casting marks and not have to get into the actual "meat" of the housing and that will be enough, we'll see. Thanks.
