Springs - Free Length??
Thanks, all input appreciated.
But it would good to get the measurements any way for FYI ... Thanks, again.
Basically trying to make my Z into an all purpose vehicle. I've been putting about 30-35 passes a month on it, my other vice is to find the quiet back roads in the mountains and tear 'em up, I may/probably will try some organized road racing this year and last the Z is my daily driver and grocery getter.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to put together a suspension that will launch like a rocket, handle like it's on rails and ride like a barco lounger (I also have other fantasies, but this is the wrong forum for those ) Oh ... and put it all togther on a budget. The end objective is a car that launches better than stock - but I don't expect to be as good as an all out drag set up. A car that handles better than stock - but I don't expect to be as good as an all out road race set up. And rides pretty close to stock on the street.
Now that I know the free length, I can consider mixing and matching different springs and/or manufacturers. I'm looking at a progressive spring in the rear matched with an adjustable shock (KYB AGX?) to fine tune it for the specific application. I'm looking for the low end of the spring to be close to that of the V6 springs and the high end stiffer than stock - but not a whole lot. Then using a stiffer solid sway bar - probably an ADDCO 1" - to compensate for the springs when I'm hitting the twisties. Plus a beefy rear sway bar won't hurt launching either.
Still chewing on the front, but it looks like the HALs may be my best option - just haven't worked it out what spring makes sense. Probably a 1le sway bar - taken off for the strip.
Last, since I live in the same town as Ground Control, I'm going to drop by and see what they can do as far being able to fine tune the whole contraption.
Basically I'm still in the conceptual/self education stage. And as I work through it, I'll either satisfy myself that I'm on to something or I'm half baked.
Thanks again for the info ... Mike
