Default need help with 2.73s

Can some one give me some pros and cons for the 2.73 gearing in the 02 Z28. Also what would 02 run bone stock in the 1/4 with these gears?

Here is something to think about. Upgrade your 2.73 rear gears and buy my 3.42 gears (only 4k miles) and really feel a big difference. You will realize a 25% increase in torque at the rear wheels. 3.42 is still a conservative ratio, you will continue to get good gas milage, and as a bonus you will be able to roast your tires on command. Increased gear ratio = instant fun!

I dont know 'bout that, i run 2.73s and i run 11.5s with 1.5-1.6 60ft (ET streets) those stock 2.73s kick *** with a stall, even better if you spray outta the hole, and they are thicker and stronger than 3 serries too. not trying to impend on a sale just stating facts.

There are a number of guys/gals running good numbers with the 273s. Coupled with the right converter, you can get great performance and not sacrifice gas mileage at the same time. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

pros: stronger and less likely to break; easier to launch car on the street; good gas mileage and quieter for long highway trips

cons: for a given stall, your converter feels loser; not as fast as 3.23s or higher gears and bigger dead spot after 1 - 2 upshift, but a high stall converter eliminates much of the difference; Power over 100 mph drops off due to upshift to 3rd.

looseness refers to the fact that you will use more rpms at part throttle with a higher stall converter. It can make the part throttle response seem weak because you use a little more throttle input for a given level of acceleration. It is perception, your car will still be fast at part throttle. look at Yank's FAQs for more info on looseness. www.converter.cc

Dead Spot: The transmission has a great first gear (3.06) but second gear is a huge drop (1.62) and that knocks the motor out of the powerband. The lower the rear gear, the longer it takes to recover to a speed where the motor is in the powerband. A high stall converter helps cure that by keeping the motor in higher rpms and creating torque multiplication for a short period after the upshift. Look on Yank's site at the dyno shop comparison graphs and note the percentage gain over stock.
