Default Weakest part of the rear - the spider-gear?

In my research, I'm hearing that the spidergear may be the weak link. How do many of you feel about this?

I would have to disagree to some extent. The spider gear is A weak link but not necessarily THE weak link. Many of them have broken for sure but there have also been many gears broken in the 10 bolts as well. If you fix the spider gear by say putting in a mini spool then something else will break. The spider gear isn't really the problem by itself. The 10 bolt is the weak link. IMHO

In an F-body differential, the ring and pinion are the weak link. Figuring that it came from a four cylinder truck...... that was never meant to see 400hp, non the less hooking it up.

Gotta agree with these guys, it's the whole 10-bolt. Although, I do see more threads about guys busting the spider gears (myself included).

Yes, I would like to replace it with a 12 bolt, but the $$$ are too much now.
