TH-400 with G.V. overdrive?

TH-400 with G.V. overdrive? have a question for you more experienced folk. I am going to buy a TH-400 around next week. Many have suggested me getting a Gear Vendor's overdrive unit. Is it really necessary? will it make the car any faster? or just smoother.
another question...will the B&M QuickSilver shifter fit my console with some custom work?

Re: TH-400 with G.V. overdrive? OK being that my car weighs a couple of tons ive done a ton of research on this matter.
1st TH400 is a bad *****!
2nd it will slow u down because it weighs more. and the 1 gear is not as tall so your 60ft will be a little slower.
And its a 3 speed so unless you wanna be reving a 4000 at 80 mph you had better get a GV Overdrive all it is is another gear for your tranny.
But unless your trying to run 10's a beefed up 4l60e will work for a while............

i should of worded my question better. i read on the gear vendors site...that with their kit it will have "6" forward gears.. 1st, overdrive 1st..second..overdrive second...etc.
that was the basis for my question of "faster" which could have many meanings.

I plan on doing it in the future just to get better gas.....on the trip to the track it will be all the OD gears and at the track I will flip the switch back to the normal gearing....there was a post you should look at about how it works...its pretty interesting... <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
Re: TH-400 with G.V. overdrive? I got a friend who has one in his truck, a T400 with the GV. He wants to get rid of it for something different, so I'll be picking that up. My car is a street car, not a track only. So, I want to ease the strain on my motor with the GV-OD, and I know that with the 400, I wont need to run a window switch, I can spray through the gears on the 400, without worry. That gain in ET will more than ofset the weight differences. My friend says the GV only weighs about 40 lbs. I say if you want to do it once, then get the 400-GV & then worry about something else, because you wont have to worry every time you go to the tracj, if your tranny is going to blow. Good luck.
