THIS is why you....
THIS is why you.... THIS is why you make sure you properly install aftermarket gears. The previous owner of my car had 4.10's put in, but whoever put them in did not seat the pinion gear completely with the ring gear. Therefore the pinion gear was applying all the power of the engine to the outer edge of the ring gear teeth, rather than the entire tooth.
And so when you grab a firm second gear, THIS happens:
In the first picture you can see that the pinion gear had sheared off 4 1/2 teeth from my ring gear. The second pic kinda shows how torn up the pinion gear is. LUCKILY for me I still have the stock 3.42 ring and pinion, so I don't need to buy a whole new set of gears. But it still pissed me off that I have to lower my gear ratio and not have a car for a week.
So...when you get your gears installed, make sure its done RIGHT.
