v6's should be non-posi and have 3.23 gears and possibly drum brakes depending on the year (pre 98?). V8's are posi and could be 2.73, 3.23, or 3.42 depending and have disc brakes. The dimensions of the two are identical.

They are the same. V6 can be 3.08 no posi or 3.42 with posi (auto) or 3.23 with or without posi with the M5.
