Deep Transmission Pans

Why not just get the b&m deep pan and have someone modify it with cooling fins?Basically drill some holes for the pipes to go through and make sure the holes are sealed.

The B & M already has cooling fins. When I changed convertors, and changed the tranny fluid, I think I had a total of ~12 total qts of fluid. PLUS, I have a tranny cooler up front in conjunction with the stock one. My tranny temps are ~180 when racing.

If you really want the drain plug (which is nice), I don't see why you could not just drill a hole in the pan, weld on a flange nut, and then put in your own plug - $10 max.

The cooler is far more effective than a deep pan with fins and has more than enough cooling capacity for the trans by itself.

True, but some of us don't want to mess with running the lines and such. Personally, I'll do a cooler (and remote filter) when the trans comes out for a rebuild, but until then the dearale pan is better than nothing.
The deep pan that I saw the other day was $165

Yes, I would run a deep pan rather than nothing at all but he said he was putting in a cooler either way. A deep pan installed additional to a cooler is unnecessary and the money could be better spent elsewhere IMO.
