Re: Tools needed for gear swap?
you'll need standard sockets and most likely a good big prybar to get the diff out (I've seen them pretty tight in the past). If you run a crush sleeve...they are PITAs to crush too. We have a bar that bolts to the yoke using the ujoint threads. A HUGE set of pliers might hold it but its really tough to do. Another "special tool" will be a dial indicator to measure backlash. I've gotten to the point that I can "feel" .006-.008 lash but I still check anyways.
Hope that helped some

And if you are doing it right, you'll need a hydraulic press and bearing seperater to remove the pinion bearing while setting pinion depth. Unless you can guess and get it within the tolerance of +/-.003 the first shot. (That would be a lucky guess) Then you'll also need an inch pound torque wrench for setting pinion bearing preload. And another torque wrench for the bearing caps. Fireball is right, no doubt you'll need a nasty pry bar. A healthy impact wrench will work for crushing the collar/sleeve. Dial indicator is a must. And a few hours of your time. Good luck!
