Default tranny problems

i drive and 2001 Trans-Am it is an automatic. when i'm driving around normal it shifts ok. every once in a while it will go up and down in rpms then shift but under full throttle it will stick at 3000 rpm's about half the time i gun it and won't move for about 30 sec and it will still stay at 3000 even of i let off the throttle and gun it again. i'm about to take it in to have warranty work done to it and just wanted peoples opinion on what is wrong with it.

check your fluid level first, make sure its not low or overfull, second, check and make sure it does not smell "burnt"...if its low, fill it, if its overfull, get some of it out. if its burnt, get it to the dealer and have it replaced.
