rear end ?
rear end ? A friend and I set up the rear on my bros. hawk.We have done plenty of gear swaps before.My friend is a machinist and has all the proper tools.We used GM oem gears that are 3.73 ratio.The problem is that it is making a hawl or whine.There is a perfect wear pattern.The backlash from the factory was 6, so we set up the new gears at 6 then came back and opened them up to 10.The noise is still the same.What are we doing wrong or do some cars not like gears? <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0"> <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

Re: rear end ? If your marks are showing a good pattern and you have 10 backlash, if its not a bearing, you must have a noisy gearset. I've had plenty of noisy gearsets over the years and sometimes you just dont get a good match and you have to get another set.
