Hearing noises in my rear again..
... and it ain't gas... <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">
Looks like I'll be out of commission until I can put a 12-bolt in.
I drove it to work today... I hope I can limp home for 28 miles.
I think it was just degrading from my last bouts with the big blocks because I didn't hit it hard off the line the last couple trips to work this week... just some highway passing.
Jason! It's all your fault! <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0">
Curse you for selling me that Stage II mess, knowing it would grenade my stock drivetrain.. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
Someone suggested instead of the ring & pinion it might be the carrier bearings.
Yeah - it is kinda like a whomp, whomp...
I am surprised it is going this quickly. I only gave it two days of hard runs... about 8 runs the day I whomped the built-up 454's and one day I ran another mostly stock 454 for two runs.
I did the typical burnout thing, etc., but I pulled away that last day with no excess noise.
Except for a few ramp accelerations and car passes, I haven't done anything hard since then.
Since I put that Ring & Pinion in around New Years Day, I finally got around to draining the rearend and replacing the gear oil. I drove to work and that evening, on the way back, I immediately noticed the rear had gotten noticeably louder. (I had done the oil change Sunday morning.)
The gears looked fine when I checked witht he cover off. I was beginning to wonder if having fresh oil in it making it noisy meant I neeaded to adjust the backlash. But then today, about the time I got to work, it had a kinda whomp-whomp. I guess I'll have to pull the cover off again today and see if I can see anything.
Any suggestions anyone can make, I'm all ears. I'd like for it to make it another 2 or 3 weeks until I can spring for the 12-bolt (and some other work I've been planning).
Must be a fluke, right? <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
I've heard powerful launches are easier on an A4 than an M6.
But I know a tranny rebuild or completely new performance tranny is in my future.
