Default 3.90s

This may have been answered before but I did a search and nothing came up. How come there are no 3.90:1 gears made for the GM 10-bolt? It would be the perfect "best of both worlds" gear betwen a 3.73:1 and a 4.10:1. Even for the 8.8" I think only one company makes them. Is it physically impossible to come up with that ratio for the 10-bolt or just no one wants to mess with it or what?

I've seen 3.90's advertised, but everyone that sells them says the same thing: yeah, they work, but they're noisy as hell. Couldn't tell you why, but probably has something to do with the mesh geometry in that ratio...

Motive should be coming out with 7.5" 3.90s in 2006.

If any gears are noisy as hell, then they weren't set properly... let's all check our setups before we EVER run them, and that'll help keep our gears quiet.

Nightclaw, do you remember where you saw them advertised? I really want to find these.

Strange Engineering makes them for the 10-bolt. Thunder Racing carries them, but they're not the ones I saw make the comment about them being loud. I can't remember exactly where I heard that, but several vendors had them a while ago (I'm talking like two years here) and made similar comments. They're a little harder to find these days though...

I checked on the Strange website and on Thunder Racing and saw nothing so I'm going to call Thunder Racing tomorrow.

My bad on this - I saw them listed on TR's site, but they're for the 8½" 10-bolt. D'oh! Maybe nobody still makes them anymore - but they *used* to be available...

Damnit, that was what I wanted when I was buying gears in January 2004. I like the 4.10's though.
