Default 4.10 gear problems

Ok I just put 4.10 gears in my car by myself and for the first 500 miles they were fine with no wine or noise. Changed fluid and everything still good. So I decided they are probably broke in by now and decided to go to the track. Ran car couple of times and now i have noise coming from the gears. My question is will I have to go back and reshim the gears or can I just tighten up the pinion nut alittle and that my take care of the problem. Any suggestions. I really don't want to go back in it because it took me forever to install, but I hate the whine.

I think you just lossened up your pinion by driving it hard at the track.
Go back and try tightening every thing up.

Did you use a solid pinion spacer ? If not, you should when you go to tighten it up. That will make sure they don't loosen up again.

Gears are not broken in by miles. It's heat cycles. Not how far you drive it.

So you are saying I did not break the gears in good or what. If that is what you are implying how can you tell how many heat cycles it has been thru while the gears are already in the car.

I don't know if you broke 'em in right or not. You should drive it for a little while say 15-20 miles then park it for a while (a couple hours). To tell if they got warm or not all you have to do is touch the rear cover. It will get warm. If this is what you did then yes tey are broke in. The first thing you should try is like you mentioned, tighten the pinion nut. If that doesn't work then you will probably have to get back inside it. HTH

Yea I broke them like you mentioned. I drove about 30 miles and let cool for 30 minutes. Did this maybe 3 or 4 times and sometimes let cool overnight. Then changed fluid at 500 miles.
Well, anyway I have a new problem. I went ahead and tighten on the pinion and it still is making some noise. So went ahead and took cover off and reshimed the gears. All the whining and noise stopped but now when I make areally sharp turn I hear a squealing noise. Does anyone know what this could be? Any help will be appreciated.
