Default 3.73 gears

How hard is it to put in a set of gears? Is there an installation thread anywhere? Guaging interest in swapping from my 3.23's to 3.73's. I have a 98 Trans am a4 with 118000 miles, headers, lid, filter, free mods. Any advice?

That's the one mod I left up to someone else more qualified. I took mine to Finish Line Performance and let them install my 3.73's.

I was afraid someone would say that. I've already had someone tell me to let someone else do it, I put my headers on but I heard gears were a lot harder. Any one else?

I wrote a how-to for it...at the very least you can see what the process entails and decide if it is something you can perform or not.

I got my gears installed for the price of $175 @ New Era Performance and the gears from Summit were $230. I felt better with that price letting someone do it with all the shiming involved, I would say to try it if you have a lift or are really good at spending time underneath the car getting the backspacing and measuring involved on the install. Then you should get a tune not only for the gear change but for the shifting/performance. Other then the speedo being off I felt my car didn't shift great, too soon/too late. I got the tune for the guys who put the gears in and what a difference. I just got done with the axles and wheel bearings myself so when it was all said and done I have spend $700 on the rearend with the diff being the only original part, I wish I could have had the money for a 12bolt but now I got to see the 3.73 in an A4.

You can do it yourself, but that is one of the few things I would leave to a professional to do... Unless you just really want to learn and have a lot of time on your hands.
