help !!!!!!!!!!!! i went with this mechanic 2 change my gears, i had 2.73 i thought i had 3.23 anyways he installed the 3.42s i bought but when he installed them and turns the wheels a noise is sonding like if the teeth are not together in other words it has play beetween the gears the mechanic told me i need some new shim's to the get ring closer to the pinion is that true or should i get other gears the geras are from an 98-99 trans am i think ?

You probally had a series 2 carriar with the 2.73's. You will need a series 3 or special(thicker) gears to work on the series 2.
If the mechanic does not understand this he does not have a clue what he is doing.
