Brake questions

Brake questions I had a front brake job done a while back. Last week I had the car up on jack stands, and for the heck of it I spun the front wheel. I noticed that the pad slides back and forth within the caliper, and makes a ping sound when it stops. Is this bad? I know nothing about brakes. I checked a friend's LS1 and his pads don't slide at all. Are mine screwed up?
Re: Brake questions By back and forth, do you mean as in clamping the rotor or along the axis of the rotor?
Along the axis, then yes, something is wrong. Make sure the metal guides are in place.
There are 2 metal guides that set in the caliper/pad frame. The pads rest and ride on the guides, not the actual frame.
If they were not re-installed, then there could be some long-term issues.
If the play is in the clamping direction, then I really don't see it as an issue.

Re: Brake questions The pad slides in the direction the wheel is spinning. If the wheel is spinning forward, the pad moves forward towards the front of the car. I think that is what you meant by along the axis.
