Default drive shaft advice please

I installed my new moser/strange 9 inch rear & I am ready to buy a new DS. What I did was mark where the slip yoke met with the tranny seal with the suspension fully loaded on the stock rear. I then re-installed the stock DS with the correct 1350 conversion U-joint with the 9" rear & found that it was just shy of 1/4 inch shorter meaning that I would need a longer DS by approx. 1/4"

Does this sound correct, & how critical is this? I got it to within a 1/16 of an inch. My center section is a strange with a "S" series yoke, it is stock height right now with new 28" tires.

Strange says their books show 41.5" yoke to yoke for a DS. My measurements show that 41.25" yoke to yoke would put the tranny slip yoke right where it was stock.
Any shared experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

1/4" is nothing. run it. as long as you have most of the slip yoke in the tranny your set.

Yeah as long as you have most of the yoke in the tranny you will not have any problems. 1/4" is noting, spend you money elseware.

Driveshaft length must be correct as in the article at this link:

Unexpected Results

And yes, 1/4" too short will eventually lead to problems - and then you definitely WILL be spending your money elsewhere - to fix your tranny

I would not run a stock driveshaft with an aftermarket rear end, particularly a 9". For starters the length is incorrect, and now it will be the weak link in the drivetrain. Take a look at Denny's Nitrous, lifetime guarantee, and it will take as much HP as you throw at it.

I am buying a new drive shaft, I am just trying to figure out if I should get a stock length one or have one made a 1/4 inch longer. Looks like I will get one made longer. Thanks for the replies.
