Default LCA relocation question...

I know that these are supposedly only for lowered cars, but I am seeing more and more dragracers using them (Colonel, Paul@Thunder Racing, Chevyguy, and others) in another post, what benefit do they provide? I would assume that they provide the same effect as the old South side bars for a Mustang, and alter the center of gravity and instant center, but I don't really understand how/why they would help, anybody explain it to me better? Would they help on ANY car? I would think that they would, as long as you had enougt tire to hook with the extra help. Thanks, Shawn

I recently had the LCA relocation brackets installed on my SS, and they've made a big difference in traction. What they do is allow you to drop the rear of the LCA's so that the tires will be better planted to the ground. Long story short, you'll end up with better traction. My LCA's were actually slightly higher in the back than the front, and I'm running the stock springs. This hurts traction because the tires aren't being planted as firm as they could be with the proper geometry. I highly recommend it for any drag racer.

I'm at stock ride height, and use LCA relocation brackets as well. I have run the car with and without the brackets installed, and there is a definate difference.

Mine are the LS1 Motorsports/Metco LCA's/brackets. The brackets are welded to my housing rather than just being bolted in.

I have the Metco LCA's and the bolt-on relocation brackets that came with the kit. Before I installed them, I had wheel hop and very poor traction. After the installation, the wheel hop was gone and traction inproved only slightly. It took a pair of Nitto 555R's to finally provide adequate traction.

Here's my understanding of how the relocation works. Upon acceleration, the rear end tries to rotate and move forward. The torque arm controls the rotation and the LCA's control the forward thrust. When the rear of the LCA is high, the rear end will actually try to lift and loose traction. When the rear of the LCA is low, some of the forward thrust is directed downward, hence improving traction. IMO.
