Default Conveter, gears , or both?????

Most people here say to go with a converter instead of gears but I want to know why wouldn't you just go with both????? I plan on doing them both.... will it hurt me?? How?

i think J hit the nail on the head....converters are done more frequently b/c they are proven to drop ET's anywhere from 4/10s to 9/10s depending on driver/tires/track conditions. but ultimately doing both would give better results depending on your vehicle's application. i personally did a shift kit with the converter and am much happier with that than redone gears. good luck to you in whatever route you go.

Well I think I want to make some mid to low 12's with just bolt ons, so could I do both gears and convereter and maybe make a 7/10 gain?? I was thinking about something like a 3000 or 2800 with 3.73's.... I plan on doing a LS6 intake, Lid, remove egr, ls1 edit(possibly), 1.8 ratio rockers, converter, gears, headers and a full cat-back(get rid of all the stock stuff) I will be happy with some low 12's with these things... I also plan on some suspension mods for traction... if necessary I will bolt on the old ET Streets....

Justin I want to do a cam and head swap but if I can get my car into some low 12's with just this I will be AMAZED! and then I can bolt on a kit and go low 11's and spend all the money for heads and cam for a Tube Chassis for my Vega! Then I can show ya some low 9's on motor ..... in a street car!

Once you have a converter, gears only cut about .1 off your ET. The nice thing about 3.73s is you should feel comfortable running a higher stall converter in the 3500 range because the gears make it feel a bit tighter.
