Broken pump question

Broken pump question if you bring your car to the dealer because of no drive gears- what would they do to find out the problem. the most logical problem would be the pump. do you have to drop the whole tranny to get to the pump? Also, would the dealer drop the whole tranny just to find out whats wrong and make sure theres nothing damaged?
heres the situation: someone loses gears- brings it to a dealer. dealer says its the pump that went bad. 2 weeks after the pump install it happens again- this time its the bolts on the converter-they apparently fell off. Friend calls dealer asking if they dropped the tranny to do they work- they said they didnt drop the tranny. I find it really hard to believe that they didnt drop the tranny at all. so what are the odds that they dropped the tranny?

Re: Broken pump question The pump is on teh front of the transmission
( it is driven off of the converter)(someone correct me if im wrong) and can be easily stacked(not putting the converter on the input shaft far enough and forcing it all the way in) I stacked the converter on my car and had to pull the tranny all the way back out and send it back to the tranny shop to get cleaned and fix the pump... I haven't heard of a pump actually going out but its possible I guess
So in other words if they didn't drop the tranny to get to the pump they either lied their asses off or are just awesome

Re: Broken pump question What's scary is the TC bolts falling out. I believe I would be looking for another dealer. Sounds like whoever you talked to didn't really know what was done to the car. Usually better to talk to the Service Manager or if possible the mech who did the work.You have to pull the trans to get to the pump.
