Default HELP! Burnout Question

I have noticed that when I do a long burnout and shift from 1 to 2 to 3 and when it finally starts to grip and move forward slowly I just keep it to the floor and ride it out. After I do this and get out of the car I can smell something like burning clutch, and no it's not like the normal tire smell I am used to it smell's like clutch.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Or maybe my tires smell like clutch when they are burned, but I doubt that because I can tell the diference between burnt tires and clutch.

Dude, I just leave it in first. Gets the job done. I wouldnt even think about getting into 3rd. When I think they are hot I just left off the brake a little. I would try that.

A few questions first.

What kind of clutch? Stock or aftermarket

Do you have a line lock or are you foot braking it?

What kind of tires, street, DRs or slicks?

This things will determine how best to do your burnout.

Ok, I was just doing a burnout without the brake to see how many gears I could catch. I was just wondering if something is wrong with my clutch or something, or if the smell would be normal under the conditions of the type of burnout I did.

Answers: Stock clutch, No line lock or braking, and Stock tires.

If I was to use the brake what rpm range would I hold the throttle at?

Well the stock clutch won't last too long with burnouts...mine lasted 4000 and it was the "01 z06" that came stock on my car...if you have the regular 3.42 gears leave it in first and dump it at like 3000 in water...and hold the rpms at like 5000, this is with your foot on the brake... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

To tell you the truth, with a stock tire I would just roll them over a few times to clean off any road junk and pull up to the line. Street tire compounds typically do not get any softer when heated. Also the more you beat on your stock clutch the sooner it will die. I would save the clutch for the launch. For tire pressure I would not go any lower than say 20psi. I'm sure the reason you are smelling clutch is due to shifting through the burn out. Just use first. For street tires this should give you plenty of tire speed to do what you need, especially with the stock 3.42 gears.

Good Luck
Mark
