gear install...HELP!

well i took my car to a mechanic to get my 4.10 gears put in (have 3.23s w/3 series)but for some reason once they were on there, the ring and pinion would turn a few turns but all of a sudden they would get stuck and then turn freely again, we took them off to see if the bearings were bad but they worked good and its not hitting the housing either...anybody have an idea of what it might be? any input is appreciated...thanks

check to make sure the ring gear is flush with the carrier and the carrier side caps are properly torqued down

Yup, runout on the backlash with cause a bind. Dismount the ring and clean it with some brake clean. Use a blow gun to dry and whipe clean with a lint free rag.
