Default GEAR SELECTION PLEASE HELP ME

Just picked up the 9inch and im wondering if i should go with a 4.10 or a 4.30

Ive got stock heads/cam
ls1edit
th400 with stock gears
and both 26inch and 28inch tires
one for motor one for spray

let me know if the 4.30 will be too much

i'd think thats good till around 125 trap speed with stock rev-limit and 26" tires.. im sure someone will fine tune that figure.

I estimate about 115 mph assuming 4.30s, 6200 rpm rev limiter, 3% converter slip, 28" tires with no growth on the big end. With a lock up switch, figure about 120 mph.

If you're are going to spray a big shot, 150 or more and want to stay within the stock rev limiter, I would do 4.10s. ET wise, 4.30s vs 4.10s won't give you much, and 4.10s will give you more flexibility in the mph catagory.

If you are willing to swap out your springs and pushrods and spin to 6600, then 4.30s would be ok.

I have a similar problem.

I am running 26's and 4.10's, and have been going thru the traps around 6400 (unlocked).

For spray, I need true 28's but I think I am limited to about 140mph at 7000 rpms.

If you plan to spray big, say 150 plus, I would not go nuts with gear.
