Default 9" Housing is here, how to paint it?

I got my axles and housing today for my 9" and had a question, the housing came as bare metal and i was wondering, what prep work needs to be done in order to have it ready to go onto the car? thanks!

I took mine and cleaned the whole thing inside and out with brake clean. There is this stuff all over the outside to keep the slag from sticking everywhere. Just clean it up really good. Then I gave it a coat of the cheap gray primer and two coats rustoleum gloss black. I never will drive mine in the rain so I didnt spend the $$ on por 15.....

I did the POR-15 Silver and I like it. POR has a cleaner agent, and a prep that both work great. All tolled I spent $15 for the cleaner (only used 1/2 a quart and cleaned more then the housing) $10 for the prep (and had some left over) and $20 for the small 8oz can of POR 15 in silver, still had some left. It lays out alot, a little goes a long long way. I didnt like the rush I got in and not realizing it spread out so well, I had some runs and such. I used not all the 8oz and laid two coats down. Good luck.

Make sure you clean up inside the housing especially under the tubes thats where alot of grindings and crap hide from MFG that stuff will hurt your bearings...

Me too. No runs, more durable, and no chipping/paint fade over time, etc.

Cheap, too!

I have found theres no guarantee on powder coating holding up. We had a rear powder coated on our '95 Formula, it's peeling off... Bob

Actually it's "Metal Ready" and Marine Clean. I couldn't remember the names either.
