Default Car is surging in OD

when i am cruising at around 30 mph in OD it feels like the car is surging, and it occasionally does this in the shifts at light throttle, is this a tranny prob. i have a SES light PO401 "insufficient EGR flow" i think i have a leak at the O-ring, coulf this cause it?

lack of rpm. I drive in D until I'm at least at 40-45mph and I have no surging problems. Also, you might be talking about the "lag" from starting in OD. Let me explain, this is most noticeable in a higher stall but, when the shifter is in OD from a start and you get to 3rd it tries to lock the converter but then unlocks real quickly because the computer realizes your in OD and then shifts to 4th and proceeds to lock up again. This whole sequence of 3rd unlocked/3rd locked/3rd unlocked/3-4shift/4th unlocked/4th locked within a period of 10-15 seconds is a god awful lag in my car with the TP4400. Which is another reason why I drive in D around town. Also OD around town causes more heat, which trannies don't like. So to answer your original question instead of continuing to rant, I recommend driving in D until around 40mph and see if that solves your problem.

later,
Steve

solve your motor problem first. your tranny is probably not the cause.
