12 bolt from junkyard?
a friend of mine told me a silverado 2500 comes stock with a 12 bolt rear end. just wondering....what kind of modification would have to be made..like with the suspension, abs...etc.?
Silverados either have 10 bolts or 14 bolts, a 2500 would have a semi floating 14 bolt. The old chevy trucks, 1987 and down had 12 bolts, some did.
They are too wide, the bolt pattern is different, there is no torque arm mount.
So at the least you'd need to get the housing narrowed, new axles, and create a way to bolt up the torque arm. And weld all the spring brackets on in the right place.
Sounds easy looking at this on a computer screen. I bet someone could do it, you might be able to do it, I don't know your skills personally but I do guarantee after all that work you might save $100 or so compared to just buying one ready to bolt on.
