Question about 4.10s

Question about 4.10s I understand that 4.10s will limit your top speed, but do they make your top end powersuffer at all? For instance if you had two H/C cars with identical mods but one with 3.42s and one with 4.10s, and they race from a 60 MPH roll, will the race be pretty much even?

Re: Question about 4.10s well there are a lot of "what if's" in this equation BUT if cars were identical with the only difference being gears the one with 4.10's has the advantage and should pull away slightly....other than that its really up to the drivers the guy with the 4.10's could suck at driving and the 3.42 guy blows his doors off....so like i said lots of facots/what if's....

Re: Question about 4.10s Well what im getting at is, are the 4.10s going to hurt the cars top end power, not top speed, but power. But assuming all the variables are the same in the two cars. Basically, if i get 4.10s I still want to be able to drop it in third at 60 and it still feel gnarly. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> So I dont want to sacfirice high end power just for a lot more low.

Re: Question about 4.10s I think I know what you want? put it this way, up to about 112 -115 depending where your rev limiter is, you should have the advantage. After that you need 5th and at that point the guy with the 3.42's has the advantage!
As for down shifting to 3rd @60 in most cases don't bother. With the 4.10's it's great, within a sec. you will be right in your power band, all the way to redline , no shift required!
Just recently I've waxed a couple of modded 5.0s a 01 Cobra & a WS6 straight 4th @60 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Before the gears I would have been hesitant to try it in 4th at that speed [60] against the Cobra or Poncho,& downshifted to 3rd to be safe.
