Carrier install help!!
Need some help here.... puting my stock 3.42 gears back in because my 4.10 gears broke... problem is.... i dont know which side is supposed to have the bigger shim? the drivers side or passenger side.... with the driver side having the bigger shim it's really tight and not a whole hell of a lot of play... but there is some... with the passenger side of the car having the bigger shim it's got some play.... if there is anyone who possibly knows which shim goes where it would help alot because i dont have a dial indicator to check the back lash... thanks!!! it could be different on every car and every gear set.
if you broke your 4.10s, i hope it wasn't bc you used the same shims on that ring and pinion as you did your 3.42s.
The shims don't have a specific side. Going to a different gearset, different ratio, different maker, etc you are going to have to reset the backlash...i.e. get a shim pack and start measuring.
