Default HELP! Question! 3.73 gears?! :)

I have ran my Camaro with excessive backlash in the rear end. The gears wine like its a semi. I was going to just buy a rebuild kit and redo the rear end gears. Right now it's all stock and I have 3.23's from the factory.. I was thinking getting 3.73's.. It's an automatic (3 speed + overdrive). It's my daily driver and I was wondering if going from 3.23 to 3.73 would effect gas mileage that much. I use this car on the highway a lot and didn't want to really effect the gas mileage.. What do you guys think? I figured if there wasn't much difference between 3.23 to 3.42 or 3.73... i'd just get the 3.73's... The gas mileage difference is the main concern... Let me know!

You may lose a mile to a gallon or so, not a huge difference in gas mileage. Bob

I've heard so many different things. Being an automatic without a 2nd overdrive, I was told the gas mileage would be rediculously noticeable. I do, do a lot of highway driving like I mentioned above. I don't want to get these gears and lose gas mileage, thats my goal basically since the repair needs done.

Strange thing is I gained gas mileage on the freeway. Going about 75 with the AC blasting, with my 3.23s I would get around 23 MPG but with my 3.73s, I would get 24....go figure...
