Default Does it have a 4:10?

My buddie just got a t/a (A4)and the guy he bought it from said he put a 4:10 in it,but hasnt gotten it tuned yet.
when he drives his RPM'S are normal, but then when he puts it in (1) the rpms dont slow down with the car, they just fall to 0 then when he hits the gass they rev up to where they would be cause hes in 1 and then catch. why does it do this?

If you downshift a auto into 1st and it freewheels the trans is worn out, the band causes that particular problem usually.

so his trans is going then, it has nothen to do with his rear end.( well he was stopped and put it in one, then drove, then let go of the gass and the RPMs just dropped, didnt ride down like they should)

That is a trans problem. No matter what gears are in it shouldn't do that.
