Just installed TA Performance Rear Diff Cover

Just installed TA Performance Rear Diff Cover All went well, studs and all. All the bolts fit fine.
My only question is, we couldnt get the heat shield to mount up properly above the cover.
The TA cover has some molding running accross the cover, which interfears with the heat shield. Where are the original cover does not have any molding running into the outer bolting area.
My original cover came with the firehawk, as part of SLP's auburn rear diff package. Its not thier cooling cover that is sold aftermarket tho. So Im not even sure if this heat shield originally came GM or as part of the SLP stuff?

What is that shield for? I took mine off a few years back and never could figure out what purpose it served. Is this the one you are talking about?
