Hydraulics shot?
Hydraulics shot? Ok, my friend and I were driving on the highway, and she told me to gun it past all the cars. (I was in 1st when she said that). However, I thought I heard a pop in the 1-2 shift (at 5900rpm), but everything went normal from 2-3. We hit some massive traffic, and I noticed that the clutch is now a lot easier to press down (less pressure?). Everything shifts fine that I'm aware of, as I didn't really take it past 3k rpm much.
I took my mom's car out for the rest of the night, and when I got home about 5 hours later, I noticed when I started the Z up the pedal was a bit stiffer, perhaps back to normal (hard to tell since I was now used to driving my mom's 5-speed Dodge shadow <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> ). I haven't driven it, but does anything sound screwy?
I was going to replace the master cylinder when I got a new clutch this summer anyway, but that's all I could figure that would be wrong...

Re: Hydraulics shot? Drove it to and from school, and the clutch still does not have all the pressure it did before.
Its as easy to press down as my Dad's Stealth R/T, if that's any indication...

Re: Hydraulics shot? if its a stock clutch then it is over heated and the pressure plate fingers are heat stressed.
but if it is not slipping, keep gettin' it.
also, there is a return spring on the clutch pedal (get up under there and look for it)
that commonly breaks as well leaving the pedal feeling sort of 'floppy'

Re: Hydraulics shot? Stupid question: When a clutch slips, what actually happens? Does it pop out of gear?
Since the clutch is operating fine, it might be the spring then. I felt around for it, but I'm not sure where it would be. Would it have popped off completely? I felt something that would seem like it had a spring on it, and that would explain the pop.

Re: Hydraulics shot? stick your head up under there with a small flashlight and follow the clutch pedal on up to where it connects to the master cylinder.. you may have to remove the lower kick panel to see it.
if the spring broke then you have 2 or more pieces somewhere in there..
