Default How much is the 10bolt worth?

My rear end started whining a few weeks ago, and I dropped it off at the dealership for the simplicity and convinience of it, but my parents said they'll pay to have it fixed. So i'm wondering how much I can sell a freshly rebuilt 10bolt for?

I would have liked to go ahead and get the 9" now, but w/ my parents paying for the repair and the extreme necessity for my car ASAP cuz of school. I'm just gonna have to rock the 10bolt alil longer.

TIA

^ What she said.

You ought to try to work out a deal with your parents that would allow you to get the 12 bolt/9" now. I can't imagine what a dealership would charge for a rear end rebuild, but I bet you wouldn't have to spend too much more for a QUALITY rear end.

Since time is an issue, you're lucky that Moser ships all rear ends within two days.

Do what you need to do, but I'd at least check with the parents before letting them spend that kind of money on an overpriced, essentially worthless stock rear.

Yea, they quoted us $1576.00 for a new set of gears, pinion, pinion seal, carrier bearings, etc, and fluids. I tried to talk to my dad, but I'm out of town right now and he doesn't want to **** with it, is what it basically boils down to

If I was at home and could do all the ordering and pick up the car from the dealership and swap the rear myself it might be a diff story ... and I could pay the diff b/w what the dealership wanted and what the cost of the built rear end was.

Wow. You would barely get a third of that back if you sold the rear end.

Yea ... looks like I'll probably have to keep the 9" fund going ... and buy one outright - atleast that way I'll have a good stock one to throw back in if I ever want to sell the car ... or however you can best rationalize it

Your parents would be better off giving you the $1500 to put towards a 12bolt/9"/S60 and nobody will have to build one again. Hell drive that 10 bolt till it blows order the new/real rear now and wait.

...Better yet, send me $1000 and I'll overnight my old stock rear to the dealership, that way you'll only have to pay them for labor.

Yea I'm right there w/ all yall on the logic ... but since I'm out of town and my dad wants things done now and what not everything's already been set in motion as to them fixing it. It really sucks, but oh well ... just the way it is.

Yea i know it sucks really bad. But on the other hand, it could be way worse ... my dad could not be willing to front me the money to fix my car while I dont have funds and my car could be sittin in the driveway for XX weeks or months. A 10bolt is better than no rear end at all.

I was going to say I have bought 3 different 10-bolts over the year, and paid, $350, $150, and 100.

Granted all were used, but with 3 10-bolts I still only spent about 1/3rd of what you will spend.

3 10-bolts between 3 f-bodies.

If your goingto keep the 10 bolt and your dad is fronting the money and you have to pay him back i wouldnt spend it on that one. I would buy one from here for 300-400 and save your money for a real rearend .

$1576, 3 weeks, and about 500 miles later ....

The rear end started howling

It's not the 'gear whine' i heard before, its only when i'm cruising that it happens ... but damnit the cars back in the shop again
