transmission problem

Default transmission problem

I have the stock everything transmission, its a '98 6 speed manual. When i am at high RPM and quickly shift (sometimes it happens with quick shifting at lower RPM), it grinds. It only has happens from 1st into 2nd gear at the times i mentioned. It doesn't stop you from shifting, but as you are shifting you feel it, and you hear it grind going into the gear. There are some other occurances of grindings, but haven't been as constant.

This happens ANY time i race from a stop, so i stopped doing that for the last while, needless to say i want to get this problem fixed. I took the car into a transmission place, the guy drove it and said its b/c the previous owners (its used) raced it, and slammed it into 2nd a lot. We took it to the dealer and they drove it, but said it didn't happen. If anything is wrong though, i have an extended warunty, which the dealer checked with them, and if its what they think it may be, then it will be covered.

What could this be? I'd like to get this resolved sorta soon before i start putting on some other mods. Thanks.

Did you do the drill out mod? If not then that is most likey the problem. When you are at high RPMs and go to shift there isn't enough fluid in the slave to disengage the disk fully, which is why you will get the grinding. Check out www.installuniversty.com and check out the drill out mod. This should resolve your problem. Hope this helps....Michael

Thanks for the info. The thing is, i have an extended warunty on the car, so do you think i should just go in and tell them that i think its doing it b/c the restriction of fluid in the slave? If i do a mod there and it doesn't do the trick, they could just try to say that caused the problem and i'd be out of luck.

What else could it be, I plan on just taking it in to the dealer taking a drive with one of the guys, and show them when and where it happens. I know its gonna be a pain to do it this way, but since i have the warunty, why not.

They would have to take the hydrallic line off the quick connect in order to find out that you did the drill out mod. 9 times out of 10 they will not know to look for it. You can take it in, but if the car is fine under normal driving, you will not have much of a case. Even if they do agree to fix it, all they will probably do is replace the slave/master and or the hydrallic lines, which will still have the restriction in the line. Go the dealer route and if no luck I would suggest the drill out mod, but that is just my $.02 Good luck with it. Michael

Thanks, i plan on taking it in, and if it stall happens, well i just got myself some free new parts, i can't see how it can hurt me other than being without car for a few days.

I'll surely try the drill out mod if their fix doesn't work, but like i said, free new parts is good, especially since i have a '98 with closing in on 50k miles, not exactly a new/garaged car. Thanks a lot.
