Speedometer not working!!

I was driving home tonight when all of a sudden my speedometer stayed stuck at 60 mph. Then it slowly dropped suddenly in 5mph clips! And when I sped up it would go back up in jumpy 5 mph clips. Geez what else could go wrong?

May be the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the tranny

Yes I did recently put white face guages on over the winter. I am gonna jack the car up today and check it out. What should I look for on the VSS?
