Default diff set-up question.

I have everything to do a differential rebuild.(auburn posi,3.73's moser axles and pinion yoke.i went ahead and pressed the carrier bearings on because i was going to do the work myself. Now I decided to take it to the local drivetrain shop.I called and told them what i had and the guy on the phone told me the carrier shims go on before pressing the bearings? When I took my old posi out,it had the shims on the outside of bearing cups? Before i take the bearings back off like he said, someone who does this type of work please tell not to.

Are you sure you want to take your car to someone who doesn't know where the shims go?

They go on the outside of the race for the carrier bearing.

Oh it's not going to them by any means.I'm no expert, but I know by taking everything out that the shims were outside the bearing races.Sometimes it's amazing how a shop can talk their way out of having a pontential customer!
