Default 10 bolt Torsen

Anyone ever bust the gears in the torsen carrier? I just installed new ring and pinion and shimmed everything correctly. What does it sound like when the torsen breaks? BTW I took out my tranny at the same time.

Lots of people have killed their rear end. Lots have killed the gears.

Lots of people have run the stock rear end with no problem.

Almost everyone in this forum is going to tell you to get a 9" because "sooner or later" or "it's only a matter of time".

I say if you want a new rear end get one.

Now on to your question. There would be a terrible whining coming from the rear end if something broke. Or a sound of good old mechanical failure, *clunk* *clunk* *clunk*.

Has new gears set up correctly with no whine. Only makes clunking noise if giving it throttle to get going or turning a corner. I know what it sounds like with broken pinion/ring gear teeth and that is not the case here.

A broken or breaking torsen will pop when you try and turn. Mine happened after an accidental one-wheel burnout.

I did.

It started out as a ratcheting noise at low speed (turning/backing up).

Then at the track one day it made an awful snap noise, and as it went down the track it made this really strange whine (like speaker interference on a radio). When I pulled off the rear cover there were little chunks of worm gear on the bottom of the housing, and that was that
