Ring gear install to differential Just a quick question: I started working on my 3.73 gear installation. I've got an Auburn 3 series differential, and AAM ring and pinion set. I've noticed that the ring gear is very tight on the differential. I've measured the OD of the differential flange, and the ID of the gear, and it looks to be a net fit. To easily get the two together I would need to heat the ring gear a bit to get in on the differential. I presume the reluctor ring would be the same situation.
Does this sound right to you guys that have done this before? I seem to remember hearing of guys having to preheat the ring gear to assemble in on the diff, but I can't remember if it's in the context of working on stock 10-bolt pieces.

Well it is net or at times a very light interference fit.
I use a hammer to knock the reluctor on and a 20to hyd press to get the ring gear and carrier together.... using a few hand tightened ring geaqr bolts as guides.

I put my ring gear in a bucket of really hot water for 5-10 minutes and it slid on far enough to start the bolts by quite a few threads.
I ran all the bolts in to make sure it wouldn't draw it on a little off. Then I just slowly worked in a criss-cross pattern until it seated. After that I took the bolts all out, loc-tite, and re-installed to torque specs.
Didn't need to mess with the reluctor ring for my application.
