changing yoke
changing yoke I'm putting an 8.8 out of an explorer in my '55 chevy and need a little advice and help.
1) The rearend appears to be in good shape and has 86k miles. Should I replace the clutches while I have it apart since I heard that was pretty easy?
2) I'm changing the yoke out and need to know if I'm messing with the backlash if I just replace the yoke. If so, I will probably take to a pro.
3) What about the crusher sleave. Will I need to replace it since I am replacing the yoke?

I'm about to do the same thing to my 8.8 so I can go to 1350 ujoints. My understanding is you have to take off the rotors and use a torque wrench to determine how much bearing load there is. Rotors or any drag mess up the reading. Some say to remove the axles, but I hear it's not necessary. Once you replace the yoke tighten the nut only until you have achieved the same preload. If you go too far you'll have to replace the crush sleeve. There's a write up somewhere on this board for a total gear swap. On an F-body I hear it's hard to measure w/out taking off the torque arm and many advise going by feel. You should be fine with it going in a 55.
