What Series???? i'm in the process of getting new gears. my pinion gear has some teeth broken off it.and i pulled out richmond 3.73. i talked to a guy on the phone the other day trying to find parts and he thinks it's probably the stock carrier with custom 3.73's on it. so i want to know. How can i be for sure it's a 2 series or a 3 series? Thanks for any help you can give.

12. What is a series 2 or series 3 carrier, and what do I have?
A 2 series carrier is a car that came with 3.08s or lower from the factory (i.e. all of your 2.73 cars). A 3 series carrier is a car that came with 3.23s or higher. This is very important when you order new gears, as they will differ from 2 to 3 series carrier!

i relize that and i looked there it doesn't tell me how to reconize the differents when your looking at it. my car would have 2.73's stock and thats a 2 series BUT i pulled out richmond 3.73's and it should be a 3 series but i was told that I still have a 2 series and the gears were custom to fit the 2 series. that don't sound right to me so i want to be positive by seeing which carrier it is thanks

Check the options codes on your car (driver's side door). If you have a GU5 code, your car came with 3.23's and you have a 3-series carrier. If you have a GU2 (I think it's a 2), then your car came with 2.73's and you have a 2-series carrier.
If your car is an M6, then you automatically have a 3-series carrier since they all came with 3.42 gears.
If your car is an M6, then you automatically have a 3-series carrier since they all came with 3.42 gears.
I just re-read your last post and realized that you already know your car came with 2.73's from the factory. A quick way to check if you have the 2-series is to look at the thickness of the ring gear base, it should be thicker than a gear set that came off a 3-series carrier.
