Default Is it bad to use.....

Synthetic gear oil for my rear end? I rebuilt it with an Auburn posi, new gears and the whole 9. I know it is not wise to use Synthetic tranny fluid due to it causing more slippage, just curious to know if the same thing applies to rear ends.

as far as i know gm wants you to use 75-90 oil and that is only available as synthetic, thats what was put in factory so i use it, but hey when you rebuilt your rear end how did it break and how much was the rebuild cause mine just went out and im kinda worried, dont know what carrier to use... etc any help would be great thanks.

Default Rebuild

I bought the Aluminum TA Girdle, Gear install Kit,Fluids, Gears and Auburn Posi for about $600 including shipping if i recall correctly, i'll have to track down my invoices to be sure. It was installed by a longtime friend/mechanic and the break in was about 500 miles no more than 50-60mph. After that man it was ***** to the wall and those 3.73s woke my a4 up like a mf!

You are not supposed to use synthetic with the Auburn diff. Moser and Strange don't recomend it for the Eaton posi's either, I never have.

Auburn and eaton should not get syn. oil you should use 80-90w or higher with a posi adative I have found that ford has the best adative and torco 90-120 gear lube. Mark Williams sells it and recomends it. It has mineral sprits in it and it is used by 6.00 sec cars.

Yes, in an '00-'02 stock T2 Torsen diff, you're right. You should NEVER use synthetics in an Auburn or Eaton Posi (except for the Torsen-like True Trac, and even that is debatable).
