Default moser 12 bolt wows!!!!

Has any one had major problems with the moser 12 bolt breaking ring gears this the third set that I have put in. I raced the car today made one pass got a 1.46-60 foot time, the 2nd pass broke the gears. I have a chevelle with a 12 bolt and I'm going 8.60's on it and I never hurt it in 6 years. I know that I installed the gears correct that not an issue but 3 sets of gears is getting a bit on the crazy side. So are the guys who are going fast runnig the 12 bolt the 9" or the dana 60. I'm not going to break another set of gears its getting old in a hurry. and what do you think about running a spool on the street. I can live with the tire chatter in the slow turns are there any other problems to go with a spool on the street, right now I have a eaton. Thanks

Dang, another set! I wonder if the torque arm mount is flexing the center 12 bolt housing, where that isn't a problem on the Chevelle.
With the horsepower you are pushing, I would switch over to a 9 inch with a spool. No problems on the street with a spool, other than the chirping on tight corners. Bob

epp so if the t-arm is at a bad angle it will damage the rear end?

I'm just thinking that a torque arm in general places a lot of stress on the housing. Bob

I have a spohn t/a with 2 deg. of true pinion angle. Has any one broke the 9". I realize that there are horror stories for all the rears and gears but has any one broke the 9" like I am with the 12 bolt Is it that mush stronger. If I change over to a 9 should I go with the moser or strange?

I think it would be pretty hard to break a 9" with a street car that has 35 spline axles and a full spool!

You would think, with all of that cast iron on the Moser 12 bolt compared with stock 12 bolt you would have very little flexing of the housing. What brand of gears have you been using?
I am a little concerned because I have a new Moser 12 bolt and have only heard about gear set up issues from Moser in the past. Do the gear set up issues still exist?

The gear set up do still happen and I had richmond gears 4.10 street with a 3 series carrier.

FYI,
Ive been very curious on the complaints on gear noise that people have had over the years on Moser 12 bolts, In addition to N2O-ARMD issues above. On the noise issue, I know Mosers response is that the gears are for severe duty/ racing application. Having seen 2 of them with a few miles on them, it appeared that they were possibly set up to tight. Moser gears were replaced with Richmond and Kodiac street gears and called it good, (No noise, usual oval contact pattern). I assumed (my bad) that it is was a set up issue. I pulled the cover on my TT project car last night to find a very good contact patern (both drive and coast) and 0.007" backlash. The contact pattern was much more generous than a a typical set of street gears and I imagine this must contribute to the noise.
My cars are more race than street so I always run with a spool. Maybe the spool will help somewhat, but unless the Eaton case was deflecting I couldn't see it as the total source of the problem. Mine will be on the track soon, I'll tell you if I end up having the same problem. It probably won't 60 ft like it did in the Vet but it should give the moser a good work out.

Strange does not make a 9" rearend

Also....make sure that there is nothing going on with your pinion angle. I know you said that you checked it...but double checking never hurt. Is that all that is happening (chewing up gears)?

Who is installing and setting the gears?
