Default Need tranny help please

Ugggh......I think I may have a tranny or a converter on its last leg(or close to it anyway).
This morning on my way to work I was driving along at 55mph and all of the sudden my converter unlocked and tried to lock back up 3 times in a row. It finally locked back up, but the RPMs went up and stayed a few hundered RPMs higher than normal. I caught a red light shortly after that, and when I rolled out at the green light the car bucked a little, and made some racket like a poping/grinding noise and then caught gear. It took longer than normal for the verter to lock up once I got going too. When I got to work, I checked the tranny fluid and it seemed fine other than needing to be changed. I checked every thing out again at lunch about 10 minutes ago, and that same poping/grinding noise is coming from the converter/tranny area under the car. I did a short test drive, and it free reved on take off untill about 3000 RPMs a couple of times. The lock up was acting wacko again as well. On the last part of the drive though, everything was acting fine. Anyone have any idea what could be going on and what I can try myself to fix it?
Oh yeah, the car is a 01 Z with a Yank ST3500\B&M cooler\lid\FTRA\loudmouth...........thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Wow, no responses! Oh well, it is a moot point now. I took off of work early yesterday to take my car into my tranny guy, and on the way there the converter blew up. I heard a clunk and the car started to "free wheel"....you know, revs but no forward motion. Anyway, just got off of the phone with my mechanic and he said the converter went out and took the transmission with it. Said there is a thick layer of metal in the pan, etc. Can't say I am too happy about any of this. There wasn't any metal in the tranny fluid yesterday when I checked it either. Only been to the track once since I put the converter in, and only managed to get two runs in at that. Man, this royaly sucks.........this car has been babied to no end. Guess I am another less than satisfied ST3500 owner, and seeing as how there have been a good deal of other 01+ owners not happy with that converter, I am a little leary of getting another. Oh well, time to call up Yank and see what can be done.

That's sad to hear. My ST3500 has worked great in my '00 Z, it's got over 10K miles on it since last November. Mine gets abused pretty regularly, too.

Glad to hear yours has worked out so well for you. Mine did get me some very nice performance gains, but on the flip side it never did seem to get along the best with my car.
