Found a 9 inch I have a nine inch rear that was just gave to me. Who could I get to make it fit under the ole SS? Any suggestions from you will be very appreciated. There are no gears in it as of yet just wanting to get it to a shop for fitting first to see if it will work. Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: Found a 9 inch The problem isn't making it fit, its somehow fabricating a mount for the torque arm. This mount must be sturdy enough to basically bear the entire weight of the car, as the torque arm is the "lift" point of the suspension. I just don't see any way one could fabricate this and make it durable enough. If you've ever seen the mount on a Moser 9", you would understand its BEEFY, and there is no good way to add this to the housing. This has been covered several times before, with everything from a 8.8" Ford, 8.5" Chevy, "junkyard" 9" & 12 bolt, etc, and no one has ever been able to do this successfully to my knowledge. When you can get a Moser 9" housing, axles (up to 35 spline), bearings, studs, retainers, and torque arm bracket for ~$750, why risk it on a "homemade" contraption, when the whole point of going to a 9" is so you don't have to worry about your rearend anymore. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I would worry less about a 10 bolt than a welded contraption, again, just my opinion, no flames intended. Re: Found a 9 inch I didn't realize that had to be done. This is my first new car and still learning the ropes of it. I'll just give it to another friend of mine that is trying to build a Chevy 2. Thanks for the advice.
