Default Fluid

Guys,

I checked the archives, and didn't get a definite answer. I have a M6, and want to change the fluid in it. I was told to use Dexron3. However, synthetic or non? Why do some say not to use synthetic?

And just to be sure... it says to use ATF?!

Any particular brand you guys recommend?

Thanks!!

I'm getting ready to do the same thing. I'm going with Redline Synthetic D4 ATF tranny fluid. I sent an email to Redline and they said that their D4 ATF would work excellent in our T56's. I've read a lot of positive things about this fluid on both this website and ls1.com. To answer your question, some synthetics have been known to damage the synchros in the tranny; however, I've never heard or read this before relating to Redline D4 ATF.

I put Mobil1 in mine and began immediately getting a 3rd gear grind.

Changed to a fossil blend, Havoline D3 and it went away.

I've used Redline D4/ATF, Honda ATF, and Redline MTL. The D4/ATF was the best (and better than the original GM stuff too). And they are all crappy until the trans is completely warmed up, the hotter the better.

Changed out to Amsoil last weekend. So far so good! It feels a bit smoother.
